No Technology For Old Men - Hat Tip To Apple
Regardless of your “relationship” with the technology giant Apple, you have to give them props for this:
My dad just entered his 60’s. He has very little interest in “new fangled technology.” Usually, for Christmas/Birthday presents we’d give him power tools, and that made him happy. (Wood work is his passion.) This year for his Birthday we bought him an iPad....

Barriers (Draft)
He tried to peer through the fog. He thought he could see a ledge on the other side but it was way too thick to be sure. “This is crazy,” he thought as he looked at the map the old man had drawn him on a bar napkin. Then he smiled as he remember the summers on Grandpa’s orchard, as well as some advice Grandpa had given him. “If you’re not constantly thinking yourself...

You Have Too Much Time On Your Hands
Has anyone ever said that to you before? How did it make you feel? I’ve heard it several times, and it always made me feel like there was something wrong with me. Like I wasn’t spending my time on the “right” things. Have you ever said this to anyone? Why did you say it?
It took me a long time to not let comments like this get to me. But once that happens, there’s a...

Feel like no matter how hard you work you never seem to get ahead? Sometimes people think there are secrets to getting rich but I don’t think there are secrets…too many rich people know about them. Instead, these “secrets” are pretty much just principles that if you follow on a daily basis, you…

I used to carry this idea around that ONE DAY, one day I won’t have to “show up” anymore. That life wouldn’t require effort, or something. It took me this long to realize that, and I don’t mean to alarm anyone but…

Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Day - a day to remind us of what we are grateful for. In essence, it is a holiday to remind us of what we should be doing every single day. It is a reminder to be grateful for not only the good in our life (be it past or present) but the “bad” as well. Everything that has come before the now has created what we are now: And that is something… wonderful.

Road Trip Epic Days 1 & 2
Day 1 consisted of the drive to Saskatoon. There was the added bonus for me that they’re having their Folk Fest this weekend. So when I rolled in around 10 pm I met up with Tennille and Co. at the Irish pavilion, and then various shenanigans ensued. I made sure I got around to the Caribbean pavilion too to say “Hi!” to fortune friend, Anita Kai.
Day 2 started off with...

Every single month I get paid a percentage of my cell phone bill, my internet bill, my TV bill, my security system bill and here very soon I’ll be getting a percentage of my power bill and that’s just the start…because I pass this information on to others I also get paid a smaller percentage…
Are you Shame Prone Or Guilt Prone? →
I first came across the Shame vs. Guilt paradox when I watched a video of Brene Brown’s talk at “UP!” The thought was profound as I had realized that for the majority of my life, and possibly still to this day, I have been more shame prone than guilt prone.
This essay covers the differences of each quite well, and more importantly covers the consequences very well.
At this...

Belief
There’s a scene in the movie “Serenity” (the Firefly movie for the uninitiated) when Book says to Mal, “I don’t care what you believe, so long as you believe it.” This popped in my head tonight when I realized something about this funny world we live in.
We can choose what we believe. Sometimes it’s hard for us to change what we believe, but it CAN...

If you don’t know what ratemds.com is, it’s website that collects user feedback on doctors local to your area.
I just noticed today that they created a profile for everyone’s favorite fictional diagnostician, and random users I think came in and “rated” him as if they were patients. Some are a good read.

Keep in mind I’m guessing on most of the measures here. This is totally to taste, but it’s very close to what I did in my most recent batch.
1 Can Garbanzo Beans, drained and rinsed
2 Tbsp Olive Oil
1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
1 tsp Cumin
1 tsp Black Pepper
1 tsp Chili Powder
1 tsp Cayanne Pepper
1/2 tsp salt
Pre-heat oven to 325 F. *
Mix up all the dry spices in a bowl first...

Could you delete your Facebook account?
I found out today (2010-05-17, if you’re curious) that congress candidate, blogger extraordinaire, open government crusader, and social media enthusiast, Adriel Hampton, deleted his Facebook account on Saturday.
This is not earth shattering news. I wasn’t friends with him on Facebook and in general it probably has little effect on the world. I do not even know much about the guy,...
